Dosing Guidelines

Typical dosing is 0.5-5 mg/L of active polymer, with the optimum confirmed by jar testing on the actual water. The emulsion must first be diluted to a 0.1-0.5% working solution; dilution water at 15-25°C gives the best make-down. Invert the emulsion into water under moderate agitation, then allow the solution to mature before dosing so the chains fully uncoil. Feed with a dosing pump at a point of good mixing ahead of the DAF unit, and use low-shear equipment throughout — pumps and mixers that shear the solution break polymer chains and waste product. Start at the low end of the range and increase stepwise while monitoring float quality and clarified-water turbidity.

How It Works

ARTFLOC L 53 H works through the two classic flocculation mechanisms of cationic polyacrylamide: charge neutralization and polymer bridging. Suspended and colloidal particles in water usually carry a negative surface charge that keeps them dispersed. The polymer's cationic sites adsorb onto these surfaces and neutralize the charge, while its very long molecular chains simultaneously attach to several particles at once, bridging them into large, dense aggregates. Because the emulsion form delivers an exceptionally high molecular weight, the resulting flocs are strong and shear-resistant — a decisive advantage in dissolved air flotation (DAF), where flocs must survive turbulence, capture air microbubbles and rise quickly to the surface as a stable float layer. Before it can act, the emulsion must be inverted and diluted in water so the coiled polymer chains fully uncoil and expose their active sites.

Usage Tips

Store ARTFLOC L 53 H in its sealed original packaging in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and frost; under these conditions shelf life is 12 months. Emulsions can stratify on long standing, so re-homogenize the drum by gentle rolling or stirring before use — never with high-shear mixers. Keep make-down and dosing equipment low-shear to protect the polymer chains. Spilled polymer becomes extremely slippery when wet: contain spills with absorbent material and avoid washing into drains. Wear gloves and eye protection when handling, and consult the safety data sheet before first use.
