Flux is the final chemical stage before the zinc kettle in hot-dip galvanizing. A film of zinc ammonium chloride dries onto the pickled steel, dissolves residual oxides at dipping temperature, protects the surface from re-oxidation, and promotes fast, uniform wetting by molten zinc — reducing bare spots and coating defects.

Check density regularly and correct with fresh flux; hold the bath in its working temperature range; and keep pickling rinse water effective so iron carry-over stays low, since dissolved iron dragged into the kettle forms dross and coating defects.
