ARTFLOC ECO is built on quaternary ammonium groups, which carry a permanent positive charge that does not depend on water pH. The charged sites bind strongly to anionic species in the water: dissolved and dispersed dye molecules, colloidal organics and negatively charged suspended solids. With soluble dyes, the polymer forms insoluble polymer-dye complexes that precipitate and are removed with the sludge — the basis of its de-coloring action. With colloids, it works by charge neutralization and patch flocculation, destabilizing particles so they aggregate and settle. By transferring dissolved and colloidal organic matter into a separable solid phase, it also lowers the measured COD of the effluent.
