Applications
Dosing Guidelines
Feed CHIMISCAV HH-80 continuously into the feedwater, typically at the deaerator storage section, in proportion to the dissolved oxygen remaining after mechanical deaeration. A maintenance residual of 0.05-0.1 ppm hydrazine in the feedwater is recommended to guarantee complete oxygen removal and support magnetite passivation. Dilute the concentrate with condensate or demineralised water in a closed day tank and dose with a metering pump. Verify the programme by regular residual-hydrazine and dissolved-oxygen testing, adjusting the feed rate to hold the target residual across all load conditions. How It Works
Hydrazine removes dissolved oxygen through the reaction N₂H₄ + O₂ → N₂ + 2H₂O. Both products are volatile, so the treatment contributes no dissolved solids and does not raise boiler-water conductivity — the reason hydrazine has long been the reference oxygen scavenger for high-pressure steam cycles. At boiler temperatures hydrazine also acts as a metal passivator: it reduces loose hematite (Fe₂O₃) to the dense, adherent magnetite (Fe₃O₄) layer that protects boiler steel, and converts cupric oxide to less soluble forms in mixed-metallurgy feed trains. Excess hydrazine decomposes at high temperature to ammonia, which is carried with the steam and raises condensate pH slightly, extending protection into the condensate return system. In closed circuits it maintains reducing, oxygen-free conditions that suppress corrosion of steel components.
Usage Tips
Store in original, tightly closed containers in a cool, dark, well-ventilated area away from oxidisers, acids and heat sources; shelf life is 12 months. As a concentrated 80% solution, HH-80 should be handled in closed systems: use chemically resistant transfer pumps, wear impervious gloves, goggles and protective clothing, and avoid breathing vapours. Never return diluted material to the original container, keep bunding and spill absorbents available, and review the Safety Data Sheet supplied with every delivery before handling.
