Immerse work for 1-3 minutes depending on surface condition, then allow it to drain and dry before the zinc dip. Exact bath strength, temperature and immersion time depend on line speed, steel type and the quality of upstream pickling and rinsing, so confirm settings through plant trials. Monitor bath density and iron content regularly: iron carried over from the pickling line degrades flux performance and increases dross, so keep rinsing effective and correct the bath with fresh powder as analysis indicates.

How It Works

In hot-dip galvanizing, the flux bath is the last chemical stage before the zinc kettle. Dissolved zinc ammonium chloride deposits a thin salt film on the steel as it leaves the bath and dries. This film performs three functions. First, it chemically cleans the surface: at dipping temperature the ammonium chloride decomposes and scours away residual iron oxides and salts left after pickling and rinsing. Second, it protects the activated steel from re-oxidation in the interval between fluxing and immersion in molten zinc. Third, it lowers surface tension at the steel-zinc interface, promoting rapid wetting so the iron-zinc alloy layers form evenly across the work.
