Dosing Guidelines

CHIMI MAG 30 is fed neat, directly 'on line' into the fuel stream before the burner, using a metering pump proportioned to fuel flow. The established dosing rate is 1:4000 to 1:8000 (additive:fuel ratio), with the exact ratio selected according to the fuel's vanadium content — higher-vanadium fuels require the richer end of the range. Good practice is to start at the richer ratio, then optimize stepwise against fireside inspections and ash analysis. How It Works

Heavy fuel oils contain vanadium and sodium that form low-melting ash species during combustion, notably vanadium pentoxide (V₂O₅) and sodium vanadyl vanadates. These molten compounds adhere to superheater tubes and other fireside surfaces, causing slagging and high-temperature corrosion. CHIMI MAG 30 delivers oil-soluble magnesium (30% active metal) uniformly into the flame, where it reacts with vanadium compounds to form magnesium vanadates whose melting points lie above typical fireside metal temperatures. The resulting ash remains dry and friable, does not adhere to heat-transfer surfaces, and can be removed by routine soot blowing. Magnesium oxide (MgO) formed in the flame also reacts with sulfur trioxide (SO₃), helping to limit acid dew-point corrosion in cold-end equipment and reduce visible stack plume. Actual performance depends on fuel vanadium, sodium, and sulfur levels, so results should be confirmed in a monitored trial.

Usage Tips

Store CHIMI MAG 30 in its original sealed drums or IBCs in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from heat, sparks, and strong oxidizers; shelf life is 18 months under these conditions. The high flash point solvent aids safe handling, but treat the product as a combustible hydrocarbon: no smoking near storage, and ground equipment during transfer. It is non-abrasive and ready to use with no dilution needed. Wear chemical-resistant gloves and safety glasses, and consult the SDS before handling.
