Magnesium Fuel Additive 30% — CHIMI MAG 30
An organo-magnesium fuel additive is an oil-soluble magnesium compound dosed into heavy fuel oil to control vanadium ash deposits and improve combustion. CHIMI MAG 30 is CHIMI ART's high-concentration grade, with 30% active organo-magnesium based on carboxylic acid chemistry in a high flash point hydrocarbon solvent. Manufactured in Egypt, it enhances combustion, helps reduce emissions, and protects boiler fireside surfaces in power-plant and refinery service.

Applications
Dosing Guidelines
CHIMI MAG 30 is fed neat, directly 'on line' into the fuel stream before the burner, using a metering pump proportioned to fuel flow. The established dosing rate is 1:4000 to 1:8000 (additive:fuel ratio), with the exact ratio selected according to the fuel's vanadium content — higher-vanadium fuels require the richer end of the range. Good practice is to start at the richer ratio, then optimize stepwise against fireside inspections and ash analysis. Our technical team reviews your fuel analysis and boiler operating data to recommend a starting ratio and monitoring plan.
How It Works
Heavy fuel oils contain vanadium and sodium that form low-melting ash species during combustion, notably vanadium pentoxide (V₂O₅) and sodium vanadyl vanadates. These molten compounds adhere to superheater tubes and other fireside surfaces, causing slagging and high-temperature corrosion. CHIMI MAG 30 delivers oil-soluble magnesium (30% active metal) uniformly into the flame, where it reacts with vanadium compounds to form magnesium vanadates whose melting points lie above typical fireside metal temperatures. The resulting ash remains dry and friable, does not adhere to heat-transfer surfaces, and can be removed by routine soot blowing. Magnesium oxide (MgO) formed in the flame also reacts with sulfur trioxide (SO₃), helping to limit acid dew-point corrosion in cold-end equipment and reduce visible stack plume. Actual performance depends on fuel vanadium, sodium, and sulfur levels, so results should be confirmed in a monitored trial.
Usage Tips
Store CHIMI MAG 30 in its original sealed drums or IBCs in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from heat, sparks, and strong oxidizers; shelf life is 18 months under these conditions. The high flash point solvent aids safe handling, but treat the product as a combustible hydrocarbon: no smoking near storage, and ground equipment during transfer. It is non-abrasive and ready to use with no dilution needed. Wear chemical-resistant gloves and safety glasses, and consult the SDS before handling.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the '30' in CHIMI MAG 30 stand for?
It denotes the concentration: CHIMI MAG 30 contains 30% active organo-magnesium. The higher active content means a lower feed volume per tonne of fuel, which suits high-vanadium fuels and sites that want fewer drum changes.
When should I choose CHIMI MAG 30 instead of CHIMI MAG 20?
Choose CHIMI MAG 30 for more demanding duties — higher fuel vanadium content or a need to minimize additive feed volume. Its dosing ratio of 1:4000 to 1:8000 (additive:fuel) delivers the same magnesium chemistry at lower injection rates than the 20% grade.
How is CHIMI MAG 30 injected into the fuel system?
It is dosed neat, directly 'on line' into the fuel line before the burner with a metering pump proportioned to fuel flow. No dilution or mixing tank is required, and the formulation is non-abrasive to pumps and burner tips.
What is the shelf life of CHIMI MAG 30 and how should it be stored?
18 months when kept in sealed original packaging in a cool, dry, ventilated store away from heat and oxidizers. Re-seal partially used drums to prevent contamination and moisture ingress.
What pack sizes is CHIMI MAG 30 supplied in?
Standard supply is 200 L drums and 1000 L IBC totes, delivered with a technical data sheet and safety data sheet. Contact us for bulk arrangements and export documentation.
