How It Works
ADBAC is a cationic surfactant: each molecule pairs a positively charged quaternary nitrogen with a long hydrophobic alkyl chain. Microbial cell envelopes carry a net negative charge, so the cation is drawn to the cell surface, where the alkyl chain inserts into the membrane's lipid layer. This disrupts membrane integrity, causes leakage of cell contents and inactivates bacteria, algae and fungi — the basis of its antibacterial, algaecide and fungicidal action. The same surface activity underlies its second role: the cationic head adsorbs onto negatively charged metal surfaces, orienting the hydrocarbon tails outward to form a thin hydrophobic film that restricts access of dissolved oxygen and corrosive species to the metal. Because activity relies on the free cation, effectiveness is reduced by anionic surfactants and heavy organic fouling, which should be considered when designing the treatment.
Usage Tips
Store CHIMICIDE BAC 50 in closed original containers in a cool, dry, ventilated area away from direct sunlight and strong oxidisers; shelf life is 12 months. Quaternary ammonium concentrates are corrosive to eyes and skin, so wear chemical-resistant gloves, goggles and protective clothing, and dilute by adding product to water.
